The Rules Committee will hold an emergency meeting today, Wednesday, February 09, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in H-313 Capitol on the following measure:

•  H.R. 514 -- To extend expiring provisions of the USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 and Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 relating to access to business records, individual terrorists as agents of foreign powers, and roving wiretaps until December 8, 2011.

The Committee on Rules will hold an original jurisdiction hearing and markup on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. in H-313 Capitol on the following measure:

• H. Res 72 - Directing certain standing committees to inventory and review existing, pending, and proposed regulations and orders from agencies of the Federal Government, particularly with respect to their effect on jobs and economic growth.

Dear Colleague:

The Committee on Rules is likely to meet as early as Tuesday, January 25, 2011 to grant a rule for the consideration of H.R. 359, to reduce Federal spending and the deficit by terminating taxpayer financing of presidential election campaigns and party conventions, which may require that amendments be printed in the Congressional Record prior to their consideration on the Floor.  

The bill was introduced and made available electronically on the Rules Committee website on January 20, 2011.  Members should draft their amendments to the bill as introduced.  

Members should use the Office of Legislative Counsel to ensure that their amendments are drafted in the most appropriate format.  Members should also check with the Office of the Parliamentarian to be certain their amendments comply with the rules of the House.  If you have any questions, please contact myself or Stephanie Smith at x5-9191.
