McGovern Congratulates Rules Committee Chairman Tom Cole

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rules Committee Ranking Member James P. McGovern (D-MA) today congratulated Congressman Tom Cole (R-OK) on being named Chairman of the House Committee on Rules for the 118thCongress:

“I want to congratulate my good friend and colleague, Congressman Tom Cole, on being named Chairman of the House Rules Committee. Tom is a strong advocate for his district and a powerful proponent of his ideas—someone who I respect greatly, and who I know greatly respects this institution. Though we’ve sat on opposite ends of the dais for four years, I admire Tom’s leadership and the example he sets. Even during moments of tense partisanship like presidential impeachments, our committee members conducted themselves with what has been lauded as a ‘masterclass in civility.’

“And though we don’t always see eye to eye, I believe we’ve done an excellent job of showing the American people that it’s possible to disagree without being disagreeable. We’ve done so not just among our members, but among our hardworking staff, and I want to thank our Minority and Majority staff, led by Don Sisson and Kelly Dixon, for all their work. Tom and I have found ways to partner together on areas of mutual concern: holding bipartisan hearings on issues like reforming the War Powers Resolution, seating a Cherokee Nation Delegate in Congress, and addressing food insecurity in America. I again congratulate Chairman Cole, and I look forward to continuing our work together this Congress.”
